Mindfulness

I believe that everyone, big or small, is mindful of their surroundings.  We practice being mindful by treating others with respect because we want to be treated the same way.  "Me, Myself and I," opens our eyes to help us understand that our culture discourages mindfulness.  We become engaged in thinking that if people don't like us then we will not be satisfied with ourselves.  This is only true if you are not happy with yourself.  I believe that we should view others with an open mind and not be judgmental.  If we view everyone with an open mind and an equal opportunity we will achieve the goal of truly finding ourselves.

  1. Great comments, Melanie--I think that you are right about being mindful entails treating others with respect and maintaining an open mind--what this means to me is that if my mind is open, I am, then, more aware of my own being in the world, as well as the presence of others, without being judgmental....

  2. I completely agree with your last sentence, "If we view everyone with an open mind and an equal opportunity we will achieve the goal of truly finding ourselves." If we were not so judgmental or have preconceived notions of others we could truly find out who and what they are about too! I have thought about it and mindfulness kind of contradicts that of the postmodern identity. Because if we were all mindful and non-judgmental of others we wouldn't wish or have to try to control how people view us.
